O livro Tendências Tecnológicas no Setor Farmacêutico: A questão das doenças tropicais negligenciadas / Technological Trends in the Pharmaceutical Industry: The matter of neglected tropical diseases, em edição bilíngue (português/inglês), resulta de uma pesquisa da evolução da saúde pública brasileira e do respectivo status do mercado farmacêutico das Parcerias Público-Privada concernente as Parcerias para Desenvolvimento de Produto. Aborda com profundidade a questão da saúde pública no que concerne a epidemiologia, demonstrando a evolução das ações governamentais, explicando a questão de seis doenças negligenciadas (doença de Chagas, Dengue, Hanseníase, Leishmaniose, Malária e Tuberculose).

É apresentada a dinâmica do mercado farmacêutico, demonstrando o cenário mercadológico dessas seis doenças negligenciadas no que tange os Insumos Farmacêuticos Ativos envolvidos, os medicamentos formulados, os produtores nacionais e internacionais. Também é feito um recorte das competências existentes para inovar, bem como as tendências tecnológicas para enfrentar esse agravo. Concernente às competências identificadas, entende-se, por especialistas no país, os centros de pesquisa, universidades e empresas atuantes no tema, bem como o situacional dos estados com maiores e menores concentrações e as redes para enfrentamento do problema.

Os autores fazem um overview do cenário internacional no que tange aos temas tratados no livro, identificando os cientistas e as Instituições TOP 10 no mundo que se destacam em cada doença negligenciada abordada no livro. Methodology for technology trends monitoring is widely used by various sectors of society, to support the guidelines for decision making on investments, R&D of a particular activity whether in universities, companies or government. This monitoring, foresight or prospecting, is a cornerstone for the Pharmaceutical Industry whose tendency is to reach the milestone of US$ 1 trillion in global revenue in 2015. Likewise, the cost of Health has increasingly been strangled by the entry of new technologies whether in new equipment, innovative drugs or treatments as well as by increasing the life expectancy of the population. So, public health has been a constant challenge for the countrys rulers.

Into Public Health area, the tropical diseases are problematic, also called neglected diseases (ND) because they contribute to perpetuate of the poverty of disadvantaged populations. However, it has become a threat to developed countries, due to increased immigration (marriage and subsequent vertical transmission), climate change, purifying of food, etc.
Thus, this book does not pretend to exhaust the subject, but to cooperate within a universe of stocks as a tool for reflection on the contributions of Pharmaceutical Industry for Public Health scenario, mainly about specific diseases that have been neglected for decades in investment aimed at innovation.

The first chapter contextualizes with an overview of the Brazilian public health and scenario of the pharmaceutical market and Partnership for Product Development. Second is detailed with the question of epidemiology showing the evolution of governmental actions and it addresses the issue of 6 ND. On third deals with the dynamics of the global pharmaceutical market and Brazil, highlighting ND (API and medicines). Chapter 4 deals with the competencies to innovate and technological trends to face the existing ND, identifying experts, research centers, universities and companies working in the topic as well as the States of highest and lowest concentration and the possible networks to address the problem. Thereafter, are the Final Considerations, highlighting the main conclusions and future perspectives.
