Written for a one- or two-semester course in electrical machinery, for students with a previous circuits course and a working knowledge of complex algebra and phasor diagrams, this text devotes more time to motors than to generators, and more time to machine characteristics than to different types of armature windings. NEMA standards and tables are introduced in the solution of application-type problems similar to those found on professional engineering license examinations. An appendix offers a review of current, voltage, and power. This second edition adds steps to some derivations, and expands some example problems. New examples and homework problems were also added, and there is new material on high-efficiency NEMA design E AC motors.
