This is an updated and substantially revised edition of Peter MatthewsÕs Morphology, first published in 1974. It remains a lucid introduction to the field, taken in its wider sense, and looks at the ways in which different scholars and schools of linguistics approach the subject, setting out and comparing the merits of these different treatments. The work will appeal both to specialists in particular languages - it contains much original material - and to students of general linguistics. For this new edition much obsolete material has been removed, current trends are discussed and the sections on further reading have been completely rewritten.
