Since publication in 1999, the first edition of Introduction to Biomedical Engineering has dominated the market of biomedical engineering texts. Under the direction of John Enderle, Susan Blanchard and Joe Bronzino, leaders in the field have contributed chapters on the most relevant subjects for biomedical engineering students. These chapters coincide with courses offered in all biomedical engineering programs so that it can be used at different levels for a variety of courses of this evolving field. Both Enderle and Blanchard are on the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the body that sets the standard for US-based engineering programs. These standards have been used as a guideline for examples and pedagogy.
